The Task

In this, your WebQuest, you will be challenged to discover not only what using WebQuests are all about, but you will also discover what it feels like to do one, gaining the perspective of both teacher and student. Throughout the project you will be working together in pairs or small groups and will be asked to share and report your findings in different areas, while working through the tasks below.

  • To begin with, everyone will be researching some background information about the basics of WebQuests by having a look at several relevant articles online and sharing what you find with your colleagues.
  • You'll be looking into the rationale behind WebQuest design and how it compares with other current EFL teaching approaches.
  • You will be engaged in analysing several WebQuests and evaluating their suitability to case specific class profiles. This analysis will be evaluated by a colleague.
  • You'll be having a look at possible problems which might arise while using WebQuests and how they could be overcome.
  • You will also investigate adaptation techniques and how to apply them to personalized situations.
  • You will eventually be asked to formally report your conclusions, in both oral and written form, in your answer to the question of whether or not using WebQuests in your school would help students learn English and, in your opinion, aid in justifying the cost of a new computer lab.
  • Finally, you will be asked to produce a self evaluation to reflect on the entire experience.

As you work through the tasks together, you will have ample opportunity to share and discuss your findings and your opinions. There will also be time to ask questions and offer answers to questions posed by others. Ultimately, it will be up to you to formulate your own opinion based on your research and make relevant recommendations.
