Learning by doing. Learning through collaboration. I hope you'll agree that this is one of the central issues in language teaching. It is also the way by which you will be introduced into the world of WebQuests.

computer question

  • What exactly is a WebQuest?
  • How do you use them?
  • How different are they from traditional classroom activities?
  • What does it feel like to do one?

What better way to find out than to roll up your sleeves and get into one yourself? Embarking on your own WebQuest about WebQuests is the way in which you will discover the learning/teaching possibilities inherent in this medium by working together through a series of tasks which will (hopefully) mirror closely what you could later do with your own classes.

Your goal is to reach an understanding of the processes at work and become sufficiently informed so that you can decide for yourself if using WebQuests is something you would consider worthwhile doing with your classes.

The  Situation   we can do it!

As a teach
er at your school, you and a colleague have been asked to do some research on WebQuests as a teaching resource in the EFL classroom in order help justify the expense of a new computer access room for students and teachers. You've enrolled in a workshop to find out more, and have been asked by your Director to be ready to report back to everyone else what you have discovered and what conclusions you have come to.

Using the power of teamwork and the abundant resources on the Internet, your job will be to investigate the principles of WebQuests as a learning/teaching tool, analyse and evaluate their usefulness for the types of students you typically teach, and research techniques for adapting existing ones to better fit your needs.
